This plugin is supported on both RPG Maker MV and MZ.

By default, help windows are included by the engine in all menu scenes as a way to convey additional information to the player, either by showing an item, weapon, armor or skill description, or by showing a descriptive text for the scene (like showing "Which slot to save?" in the save scene, for example). This window takes a considerable area of the screen, even when there's no text to show.

This plugin aims to effectively remove the help window from all selected scenes, while also allowing for its existence (in whichever window from the scene you want it to be enabled). However, when the window is activated using this plugin it is show close to the selected item, and the window is resized to fit the text it has to show without taking more space than needed to convey the required  information. Also, the player has the power to show or hide this window as he pleases, so that experienced players can remove unnecessary information from the screen.

Main features:

  • Select which scenes and windows will use smart help windows individually through Plugin Parameters;
  • Set a key so the player can hide or show the smart help window as he wishes;
  • Configure size, placement and text for a hint window, which can be used to tell the player which keys can be used for what (like which one toggles the help window);
  • Reposition all remaining windows for a scene with smart help windows enabled, to account for the absence of a fixed help window;
  • Add custom descriptions to equip command, item and skill categories;
  • Show a clickable/touchable button to toggle smart help;
  • Add custom descriptions for the main menu and title command list;

Hello, nice plugin! I have a question for this plugin, is it possible to use it in main menu or title menu screen? Thanks in advance!

Currently the plugin is not prepared to work on the title and main menu scenes. It is possible to implement, but I don't really see the point, to be honest. It would function as a command description for each title or menu command, but they usually are really self explanatory.

How were you thinking on using it?
Maybe if I know what's your idea I can think about extending the plugins features.

I want make title menu commands with help windows to know what that command is, like Ys IX game title screen, and of course in main menu too, so player will know what exactly is that command in the menu, like example ; Command Item : help windows => This command will see all your items you have. And I think, it will a bit more intriguing and interesting

Sorry for taking so long to reply. As it turns out, I was actively working on a few new features for this plugin, so I took the time and added menu and title support as well. Just dowload version 1.2.0 and read the updated help section on how to use it! :)

Hello, this is a great plugin. However there seems to be lacking some touch screen, or click support (essential for mobile)
Adding an option to "click" the help window rather then a keystroke press would be a nice feature.

Also being able to replace the help window with a graphic would be a nice touch.

I guess adding a background image option to the help window is a nice feature. I'll add that to the backlog.

As for the click / touch support, I think that's a good idea as well, but I would like a feel more details before getting down into code. Since the window can be hidden, there won't be anything to click / touch to make it visible. What I think could be done is to add an overlay button to toggle its visibility. So clicking / touching on the button would hide or show the window. Is that what you were suggesting?

Yes that's more or less what I had in mind with the "touch/click" support.
Right now you have it set up where you can select a key (default tab) to show or hide the info window.
I was mainly just thinking if there could be a way to add "click/touch" to that dropdown so that mobile interfaces can interact with the "show/hide" button, or just make it always click/touch enabled, as almost all the normal UI supports touch inputs as a valid option to interact with the interface.

That's a nice suggestion, and I can totally make it happen! :)

I was awfully busy the last few months and have acumulated quite a backlog of fixes and new features to implement (some of which I'll probably release this week). SmartHelp is actually close to the top of the list with some already mapped bugs and new features, so although it may take a while, it won't be that long!!
